Question

What causes, in a Buddhist thinking, bring me to Wat Kow Tahm?

Answer

Well, according to Buddhist thinking, it is Kamma that brings you to Wat Kow Tahm. Because of your Kamma you are interested in mind development, and in particular you have sown causes in the past and developed the Paramis enough that you have come in contact with the Dhamma. So according to Buddhist thinking it is Kamma that brings you to Wat Kow Tahm. We have a funny little story that we often tell the assistants, about Kamma bringing people to Wat Kow Tahm. Some people walk up the hill and go to see the view. Then they see the view and leave, walking by the green board, and walk down the hill. They are not interested in what's happening here but they are only interested in the view. Some people walk up the hill, they go to the lookout, they see the view, they come back down past the green board, they read the board, they're not interested and they walk down the hill. Some people walk up the hill, they go to the lookout, they come to the board, "Oh, what's this going on here?." They see all the information, they read the information, "Oh, that's a good idea," they sign up for the retreat. But then they don't come on registration day. Some people come up the hill, they go to the lookout, they see the green board, they sign up, they come to registration day, but then they leave the first day. And so on. The fact that you are here today, according to Buddhist thinking, is that you have higher Paramis. You have been interested in the Dhamma before, and that is why you are so keen.
