Question

What is Broong Dtang?

Answer

Broong Dtang is a Thai word that means to concoct, elaborate, and in particular in meditation it means to create around a chosen theme, to concoct, elaborate, make it more interesting. One teacher, when he used this particular term, in referring to Reflection meditation, he used the analogy of cooking Thai food. In Thai food, you add all sorts of flavors, sweet, sour, hot, all at the same time to make it more interesting, because the Thai people think if it hasn't got all these flavors together it's boring. So in meditation it means to concoct, elaborate around one's chosen subject.
