What kind of Reflection could help to lessen the self-pity mind?

Answer

The most powerful meditation for lessening the self-pity mind is the D/D (Defusing/Diffusing) Compassion and Lovingkindness meditation. When we have self-pity, we are focused only on our own suffering, thinking that nobody else in the world has it, and that we are suffering most in the world. We're focused just on ourselves, we feel sorry for ourselves, so in order to lessen this tendency, we need to replace this selfish mind with compassion. So we use the same form of Dukkha we feel we're suffering from and then universalize it, as we did at the beginning of the retreat.
