Question

Do you have any suggestions about where I could hang out if I become fully enlightened in this lifetime? I thought that perhaps I could start by spending the winters at Wat Kow Tahm, roaming from beach to beach in the afternoons, talking to hung over tourists about Dukkha and unpleasant physical sensations.

Answer

If you become fully enlightened in this lifetime, first of all find me please! You owe me! I'll probably give you a little kuti, build you something somewhere, maybe even buy some land for you, encourage all my students to come and visit you. Steve and I have already resolved to each other, that if one of us becomes enlightened before the other, that we won't forget each other, that we owe each other most of all, so I'll support you, don't worry about it.

It is recorded that after the Buddha became fully enlightened, he used to start his day surveying the world with his psychic powers, to find who was ripe to be taught and then he would walk, sometimes for days and days just to find that person. So it's probably better, and more useful to the world to find people who are ripe to be taught because if you get them enlightened, if you get me enlightened, then it usually has more benefit, and it spreads out that way. But if you try and teach people who are not ripe to be taught, you may just end up getting discouraged and becoming a silent Arahant, that is an enlightened person who does not want to teach. So I suggest that you see us first please, we have a lot of connections, we have a lot of contacts.
