Question

"What does the word wif mean?"

Answer

"Wif" is basically for our old students, because I don't know if anybody else teaches it! It is for our old students who want to use death reflection in their speech. I could say, like normal people say, "Oh, I'll meet so-and-so in September in Germany when I teach there". Now, to make that statement means that I actually believe that I am going to be in Germany in September and I'm going to meet the other person. When I make a statement like that, it's very definitive, it means, yes I believe it. I'm going to be alive, the other person is going to be alive, the retreat is going to be happening, I'll be there. But in reality we don't know that the retreat is going to happen. We don't know that I am going to be alive, we don't know that the other person is going to be alive. So if I want to say those same words, but I want to use death reflection in my statement, I might say, "When and if I teach a retreat in Germany in September I will meet that person". We have shortened this phrase, "When and if" into "wif". So if you want to start using this in your speech, you can do that, the word "wif".
