The purpose of a spiritual teacher being our guide is to make sure we're going in the right direction, because sometimes we may be unfolding but going in the wrong direction. Also if we have a spiritual guide we can often go further. When we meet obstacles in the path, a good teacher makes it easier to go around the obstacles.
