Question

Please, sometimes while I am doing reflections my mind starts to crave different stories or stupid thoughts, totally drift away. What is good to do in such a situation?

Answer

Just note it and come back. That's our first technique, note it and come back. Second technique is note it again and come back. Same sort of thing you do if you are doing the walking, same sort of thing you do if you are doing the breath awareness. If you are in a reflection and you get lost, as soon as you become aware, note and come back. Then of course, if it is sticky, then we go into other parts of the practice. We may look at the body, we may do Compassion/Lovingkindness with the thoughts, we may take up a different reflection and put it around those thoughts, soften that thought, and then go back to the original reflection. So, basically it's the same technique, if you are lost at any time, in any of your meditations, the first thing you do is just note it and come back.
