(that is a play on DD I think) Yet I clearly understand the terms and meanings of defuse and diffuse, what I am confused about is the process of using DD in my life? When? How? Step-by-step? And why? Would you be willing to offer some concrete specific examples?

Sure, have you ever felt lonely? Ok, this loneliness starts to arise, it happens many times in our life. Ok, when we are feeling lonely recognize that feeling of loneliness. Try to have some compassion for yourself. Then think of other people in the world who may be lonely, stray dogs, prisoners, people in solitary confinement. It is quite amazing how quickly our own loneliness seems so small. Whatever negative experience you are experiencing in your life can be diffused by recognizing it, accepting it at that moment, and then using it as a base for a D/D. The most powerful example of the DD is when Kisa Gotami lost her child and the Buddha used the mustard seed to open her heart to the universality of death. So whatever loss you are experiencing can be diffused, whatever suffering you are experiencing can be diffused.
