Question

On the topic of the Dhamma bank, isn't there a risk of thinking you have more than you do in the bank, and then when you go to make a big withdrawal, there's not enough in.

Answer

Well, when we make a big withdrawal we have to be very careful with what we mean by big withdrawal. Doing unskillful actions is usually a withdrawal, so we certainly have to be careful about that. So yes, understanding that we don't know how much we have in that Kamma bank account may help us to not make big withdrawals but instead keep on putting in a lot of deposits. Steve told you about the water and salt, right? It's a big risk, if you put in too much salt in drinking water, it will be unfit to drink. So continually doing good Kamma is helpful so that we don't make these big withdrawals. Actually there's much more happiness and joy in making deposits anyway. If we see that as a lot of happiness, to make big deposits, then you don't need to make big withdrawals, because it's not like the normal bank account. It works a differently, these Kamma bank accounts. However the more water you put in the bathtub the less chance there's going to be that there is not enough to take out.
