Question

How can we improve our Resolution?

Answer

By improving our confidence, or Saddha. Saddha is a spiritual power, it means confidence or faith. By increasing our confidence in the Buddha, the Dhamma, the Sangha and the practice, by doing confidence inspiring objects in meditation, our determination becomes stronger, because we know what is important. This is what I have found at least. I have strong confidence in the Truth, the Dhamma, the Four Noble Truths. When I first heard them, it was immediate, this is the Truth. This helped my determination to practice, even though my wisdom level at that time wasn't great. Hearing the Four Noble Truths gave me determination not to give up because I knew this was the right path to take.

So improving our confidence in ourselves and the practice helps determination, then one never wants to give up on going in a beneficial direction. Reflecting on confidence inspiring objects such as the Buddha, the Dhamma and the Sangha. Having confidence in the human potential to balance our conditioning about our limitations., Being willing to see the changes within ourselves and take joy with them. As we see the practice working on an experiential level, confidence starts to arise and it builds on itself. This increases our determination to keep practicing, to have more patience and then wisdom starts to increase. Sometimes the determination kept me going even through difficult times. Fortunately my wisdom tended to catch up and it helped me in those situations. Compassion, strengthening the compassionate motivation, can also strengthen determination.
