Question

How do I recognize and avoid unskillful justification when I do something unbeneficial?

Answer

Kamma, I say is intention. Look at your intention for doing a certain action so that you can try to avoid unskillful justification. See if your intention was based in compassion and good qualities and whether it had wisdom to balance it, even if you had compassion. We have to learn how to be truthful to ourselves and avoid unskillful justifications. Asking yourself the question, "What was my intention?" can help you get closer to the truth - to see what was motivating you in a particular action.
