Question

Is the use of responsible modern forms of birth control and prevention contrary to the precepts?

Answer

Prevention, as to preventing pregnancy, there doesn't seem, as I understand it, to be anything wrong with that in regards to the Buddhist precepts. Abortion is different, because that is after the baby is conceived. As far as Buddhism is concerned the minute there is conception that is a living being. Abortion is breaking a precept because it is killing. But prevention, as far as I understand, is not a problem whatsoever.
