Question

What is the Buddhist view on abortion?

Answer

The Buddhist view is that abortion is killing and should not be done. The only exception I personally would feel is obviously ok is if the mother's life is at risk, that she may die. But otherwise abortion would be straight out killing. The reason that in the case of the mother possibly dying being an exception is because the intention is different. The intention of abortion at that time is to save a life, the intention is not to kill, the intention first is to save a life, that is very different. With all other types of abortion the intention is to kill that little baby. So that is a very different type of intention.
