Question

How can we work better with boredom and laziness in our mind?

Answer

One thing that I have said for a long time, is that if a person does this practice really well, there is no such thing as boredom. There is always something to be aware of. When you are lazy, you can be aware of it. The minute you are aware of it, you are not really lazy anymore. Boredom arises, the minute you are aware of it, you are not bored anymore, there is something to look at. This is very interesting, everything that comes up for you is a chance to practice.

Now the other day I gave the 7 reflections, and I said that we added a new one based on four sayings. Out of the four sayings were two you knew already: Good luck, bad luck, who knows?; No problems, only challenges. The other two were: What can I learn from this? And changing everything into the path. These four sayings affect our whole attitude.

If you say these four sayings every day along with your other reflections, you can shift your whole attitude to life, boredom doesn't exist any more. How is that? Ask yourself, "What can I learn from this? How can I change this moment into the path?" We are always interested in what is going on, we always want to develop in this little moment. Another little saying to use is: "Every moment is a chance to develop the Paramis." So boredom and laziness can be thrown out, if we change our attitude towards life, trying to view each moment as a valuable opportunity to learn and grow.
