Question

The person dying with much pain and without getting morphine but instead being guided by a meditation teacher to open to the universality of Dukkha, was this person a meditator?

Answer

I did not state that the person did not get morphine. As to whether they were a meditator, I'm not sure. The story that I heard didn't state whether they were or not. If not, would these changes be likely to happen to a person who was not practicing wise reflection and meditation? Well, it depends on the person, really. Probably unlikely, but we never want to limit a person's potential. Sometimes Dukkha can make a great deal of changes in a person, depending on who is with them and talking with them, taking their time to be with them and guide their thoughts in a beneficial way.

If yes, what are the conditions for such a sudden change in the mind? A wise friend and wise reflection, guidance. It is very difficult to find the way out of Dukkha unless one is pointing towards the path leading out of it.
