Sometimes when people are considering having children, they only look at one side of the spectrum. How much happiness there will be. It's good to think about the other side, too, so that we go into it with a wise understanding of what we will have to sacrifice and what qualities we will have to bring up to fulfill our responsibility towards having children. The practice does include discussing the future and direction we are going to take. Unless we discuss the future, we can't bring forth the effort to prevent.
So although we may die, it doesn't take long to get pregnant and we have to consider the results of that. Practicing Right Speech and looking at your intention for having children, what is our intention? Are you willing to take the responsibility of guiding children for the amount of time and years it's going to take to bring them up, sacrifice some of your selfishness, etc.? Putting in the amount of work that is necessary?
