Question

How can my practice be of help to develop professional goals?

Answer

If we practice developing the Energy Parami, the Determination Parami, the Patience Parami, and the Renunciation Parami, then we put a lot of effort into our projects! When we're more Mindful, we're not so distracted, we can focus our mind more clearly on one thing. However if it's just a professional goal you're after, you may get into the achieving mind, so you may not be so effective.

You have to understand whether you have a Right Livelihood, because if you don't, it's very difficult to get totally motivated in it. If you're in a Right Livelihood, then you bring the powers of your practice to whatever you're doing. Being aware of the hindrances when they arise which are preventing you from being present. Being aware of the eight worldly conditions, which often arise due to our work situations. Having better relationships with your work colleagues, through having Lovingkindness, Compassion and Equanimity. Our practice helps with all of our life, but if we're only in a livelihood just to achieve success, then perhaps you need to put more effort into your practice and consider the true purpose of your livelihood.
