Can you please talk some more about the relationship between mind and body, and why strong body awareness is so important.

Answer

Your body is always in the present moment. That seems an odd statement, but it is absolutely true, your body is always in the present moment. Is your mind? No. In fact the majority of the time your mind is not in the present moment. When do you have the most Dukkha in the mind? When it is not present, when it is off dreaming, about this, that, the past, the future, you name it, angers, hatreds, whatever. The minute you are back in the present moment, with your mind connected to your body, when you grab the door and actually hold it, move it and pull it, is there any Dukkha? When you actually know that you are taking a step, for example doing the walking meditation and you are actually there, you are taking a step, and another, and another, and you are actually right there, is there any Dukkha? When you actually sit down and you are able to feel your body, you are able to feel your breath, even for only for 2 seconds, in those 2 seconds, is there any Dukkha? In particular is there any mental Dukkha? No, there is not any mental Dukkha when you are actually present and aware with body awareness. With pure body awareness, you won't have mental Dukkha.

Now that doesn't mean that you are enlightened, because you still have to purify the mind when your body awareness is not so strong. But the fact is that it is a resting place and it is a sharpening place also, it sharpens our mind. We are not so cluttered up when we are able to just be with the movement, to be very concentrated, to be very aware just in that moment. So body awareness is very important.

Now, a lot of meditators, especially students of ours, when they get into the reflection meditations, they don't do enough body awareness. Because the reflections are very interesting, very exciting and they can deepen some wisdom growth and so on. But if you are off balance, if you go too much into the reflecting side and not enough into body awareness, then it is not going to work that well. So increase your body awareness if you know for yourself that it is not strong enough.
