Question

Would you please explain what is wrong speech?

Answer

Wrong speech. Speech that is untrue, exaggerated, harsh, idle chatter, etc. is considered wrong speech. It's important to look at right intention to know what is right speech, because that precedes it. Right intention is thoughts directed to harmlessness, free from ill-will and cruelty. So wrong speech would be going against that intention, that is it could be harmful speech, it could be harsh speech, it could be jokes that have the brunt of other people. That is, to make fun of other people that would be considered wrong speech, because it harms other people. Right Speech will come out of a compassionate intention.
