Question

Would you explain Mara, please?

Answer

Normally Mara is considered the personification of ignorance; it is the ignorance within us that wishes us to stay ignorant. It is the tempter; sometimes Buddhism also says that Mara can be an external thing tempting us, but my understanding is that it is the ignorance within us that wants to keep us ignorant, wants to keep us attached to the defilements in the mind, and doesn't want us to realize our potential.
