Question

Is the universe friendly?

Answer

I guess it depends on what you're going to define as the universe. If you are defining it as Samsara, the way Buddhism describes the nature of existence of all living beings living in this world: in the cycle of birth and death; in the cycle of injury, illness, old age, and decay; in the cycle of lamentation, sorrow, pain, grief, and despair, etc., then I'm not sure if I would call that friendly. It's downright horrifying. What is friendly? It is the Buddha, the Dhamma, and the Sangha giving us methods on how to get out of this horrifying universe.
