Question

When I don't want to reflect on a certain topic, for example Compassion/Lovingkindness, the Triple Gem, or Kamma, etc., do you think it is then that I need it the most?

Answer

It's hard to say. If you resist reflection on a particular topic over the course of quite a long period of time, I would say, "Yes, you probably would need to do it." But over a short period of time, say you planned this morning that during the standing meditation you would reflect on death, and then, when the afternoon comes, you start the standing meditation, and you change your mind and decide to reflect on your good Kamma. That would not be big deal to me. But if you decide to do death reflection and then you skip it once, twice, three times, four times, five times, OK, it certainly looks to me then that you are avoiding a subject that you do need to reflect on.
