Question

Can you feel compassion for very evil people, like mass murderers?

Answer

Of course! Why not? Is this a very, very sick person? Is this a person who can't think straight? Or is this a person who is conditioned in such a way that they find "fun" in slaughtering other living beings? Isn't this one of the sickest people on the whole planet?

Imagine you walk down the streets in Bangkok or Surat Thani and you see a beggar, and they are missing toes, or their feet, or their hands. Can you have compassion for them, for what you see as a sickness from the outside? Now, imagine you see some fancily dressed person walking down the street, you don't see anything wrong with them. You find out that they are a mass murderer. Can't you have compassion for that sickness inside that they have? Separate the person from the action. We certainly don't like mass murderer's actions, but this is a person that is so sick, it's incredible.

You're so fortunate. You are not one of those people. A lot of these people actually think they are doing something right. That's how sick they can become. Can you open your heart for them?
