Question

Rosemary said something about unbeneficial conceit yesterday. Does this mean there can be beneficial conceit?

Answer

As far as I know, the definition of the word "conceit" is: to think of the "I, I am, I will be, I have been." And, yes indeed, there's a beneficial type of conceit. Here's an example: "I am a compassionate person, I wish to become a more compassionate person in the future." So when your thoughts are centered around becoming a better person, these are still thoughts about the "I", but it's in a positive direction, and this is something we do need in order to develop. So there's that type of beneficial conceit.
