Question

How can I become ever more confident in myself?

Answer

All of the techniques that we're teaching here help confidence to grow. Every one of them, in unison together, not separately. They're all going to help you to be able to be less resistant to life, to accept life more. When people accept life more they become more confident in their abilities because they know more realistically what they can do and what they can't do. People who are often under-confident are idealistic. They think they should be something that they're not. So by knowing more of who and what you actually are, you can actually develop more confidence with what you can do, and when you're asked to do something that's beyond yourself then you can say, "Sorry. I can't do that." Where so many other people will still try to do what they can't actually accomplish, because they're trying to prove they're better than they are. So understanding more of who and what you actually are will help give you more confidence with what you can do, and knowledge with what you can't do.

There's more, such as tonight, we plan to give a meditation considering the eight worldly dhammas. A lot of people standing in front of a crowd giving a talk like this, in front of your classroom reading a poem, whatever it is, many will say they feel under-confident. They don't like being there. That type of under-confidence ties in to attachment to praise and fame, gain and pleasure, which we plan to talk about tonight a bit, in order to be able to let go of our attachment to them, in order to let go of our worry and concern, especially about blame. Then we're also be able to have more confidence with what we can do.
