Question

Is the purpose of the practice just to be a good Compassionate person?

Answer

Quite frankly, if your purpose in life is to be a good compassionate person - great. Because that is what you have to do. The question is: how are you going to be a good and compassionate person? For this, you need techniques. But to be honest, if you are a good compassionate person, and you want to be like that every moment of your life, - all the time, all the time, all the time - that's the same thing as developing all the Ten Paramis. Because how else are you going to become a good compassionate person?

Someone might think: well, you only need Compassion. But again, no, what do I talk about with Equanimity. And how can you truly be compassionate unless you have some Wisdom? And how can you actually put that Compassion into action unless you have some Energy. And where are you going to get the Energy from? You need some kind of focus, that's Resolution and Determination. And isn't Patience part of being compassionate? You know, you are looking at everything evolving together. So actually you don't need all the kind of theory of Buddhism. You don't need all the belief systems. If you want to be a good Compassionate person that is what this practice is for.
