Question

In Buddhism, it is allowed to eat beef if the animal is not just killed for you to eat it. In those times of the Buddha I can understand this. Today, however, the food industry and especially the living conditions of animals and the conditions of slaughterhouses are so cruel and produce so much Dukkha, how can a Buddhist not be a vegetarian? There is a saying that as long as there are slaughterhouses there will be battlefields. Do you think this is true?
